Computer and internet recommendations

Online learning and interaction is facilitated with:

  • Good internet connection

  • Adequate computer

  • Good webcam and headset with microphone. Proper lighting. Good placement of the camera.

  • Software set up and ready to go.

Please read these documents and follow the recommendations as much as possible to provide for a quality learning experience.

Setting up a Zoom account

As a student or staff member of TWU/CanIL, you can have access to fully licensed Zoom account through TWU. This facilitates a number of online learning activities so please create and use your TWU Zoom account for your TWU/CanIL classes.

Follow these instructions if you have not yet set up your TWU account.

Are you neither a TWU student or TWU staff? (click to expand for instructions)

We may have some CanIL Community participants, taking part in a Grammar or Discourse Workshop for example, that are not registered as TWU students or staff. If you do not have a TWU Pass, and if you do not have a Zoom account already, you will need to set one up to fully engage. Follow these instructions to set up a free account not associated with TWU.

I can't log in to learn.twu.ca or I can't log into a Zoom meeting

  • Are you using your TWU Pass username and password?

  • Are you using your TWU Zoom account? (See above)

  • Is your caps lock key turned off?

  • Do you have an unusual keyboard turned on (such as the IPA keyboard for phonetics) when it should be turned off?

What to do:

  • If this is during class time, let your Teaching Assistant know via the contact information listed on the course site (have a copy on paper, or a screenshot on your phone for times like this) and they will advise next steps.

  • If this is outside of class time or if you can't get through to the Teaching Assistant, contact one of the following:
